doctorRaulerson Hospital is recognized by the American College of Radiology as being one of the only healthcare facilities in the State of Florida to be accredited in all five imaging modalities: CT Scan, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, and Mammography. Our Radiology Department is fully staffed by technologists registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

The Radiology Department at Raulerson Hospital provides full-service diagnostic imaging studies with the latest in state-of-the-art, fully digital diagnostic imaging equipment including:

  • GE BrightSpeed 16-Slice CT Scanner
  • DEXA Imaging System for Bone Density / Osteoporosis Screening and Detection
  • Digital Mammography System with iCAD (Computer Aided Diagnosis)
  • 1.5 Signa HD 1.5T MRI Scanner System with CADstream (Computer Aided Diagnosis)

Raulerson Hospital has entered a new era of providing enhanced services in the form of digital information to the hospital, its physicians and patients by installing a PACS (Picture Archive and Communications System). This state of the art computer system will allow the department to provide digital medical images and related information in real time….when you need it and where you want it. This technology will result in more timely communication of exam information leading to quicker patient care decisions and enhanced quality of care. PACS is a major advance in the field of medical imaging and eliminates the need for manually filing, retrieving and transporting important patient data. It also eliminates the need to wait for images to be filmed and the problems associated with tracking down misplaced or misfiled films. In addition, any imaging study can be downloaded onto a DVD/CD for easier transport to your physician or specialist for review. This is especially beneficial for those seasonal residents who bring their health information back and forth between homes.

Digital Mammography System (Senographe DS)
The system at Raulerson Hospital is considered the most modern mammography equipment available today. It offers outstanding image quality and an easier, more comfortable exam experience for patients. Exams can take less than half the time of standard mammography exams, breast images can be reviewed electronically for improved workflow, and the system offers easier access to lesions for biopsies.

iCAD (Computer-Aided Diagnosis) MammoReader System
This is a powerful and innovative Computer-Aided Detection system, utilized in the radiology department of Raulerson Hospital, that serves as a second set of eyes to help our radiologist spot suspicious areas in the breast. A mammogram "double read" by a radiologist or assessed by iCAD is highly recommended as an optional tool alongside a digital mammography system.

Bone Density Screening - DEXA
Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak, brittle, and prone to fractures. It develops as a result of having low levels of calcium and minerals, using steroids, or as a side effect of certain diseases. Regular exercise and adequate amounts of calcium and vitamin D, and an osteoporosis screening are four important ways to keep bones healthy all throughout life. For more information on an osteoporosis screening with our state-of-the-art DEXA system at Raulerson Hospital, call our radiology department 863-824-2982.

PACS
In the radiology department at Raulerson Hospital, medical imaging is now handled by picture archiving and communication systems (PACS), a system dedicated to the storage, retrieval, distribution and presentation of images to the radiologist and enables practitioners in different physical locations to access the same information simultaneously. The PACS system expedites the time from the test to the reading by our radiologist and allows your family physician to sign on to the internet and look at the same images.

CT Scan
Raulerson Hospital’s GE 16 slice CT Scan provides superior image quality and is used to examine tumors, cysts, fractures and infections throughout the body, including the head, chest, spine, liver, kidneys and uterus. Computed Tomography (CT) scanners use X-ray technology to generate cross-sectional views of the body and its internal organs for the most accurate results possible. This painless test helps guide physicians and radiologists through many types of minimally invasive treatment procedures.

Fluoroscopy
Technologists at Raulerson Hospital use the Fluoroscopy technique to obtain “Live X-Ray" images of the patient. It is very similar to an X-Ray TV camera. At Raulerson Hospital Fluoroscopy is often used to observe the digestive tract (Upper GI series – Barium Swallow, Lower GI series – and Barium Enema). We also use Fluoroscopy during diagnostic and therapeutic radiologic procedures to observe the action of instruments used to diagnose or treat a patient.

MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is primarily a medical imaging technique most commonly used in radiology to visualize the structure and function of the body. The recent addition of a new state-of-the art 1.5 Signa HD 1.5T MRI Scanner System with CADstream (Computer Aided Diagnosis) significantly increases our diagnostic capabilities. This powerful tool which uses a magnetic field instead of X-rays to produce high quality images in multiple planes, results in faster scan times and greater patient comfort.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, involves exposing part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Our technologists at Raulerson Hospital can observe and record blood flow, internal organs, pregnancies, cancer, abdominal disorders, blood vessel problems, pelvic disorders or other problems. Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

X-Ray
The X-Ray technologists at Raulerson Hospital are highly trained healthcare specialists, with specific skills in utilizing our digital X-Ray equipment to take images of the body so that diseases, conditions, or injuries can be visualized and diagnosed. Raulerson Hospital continues to maintain state-of-the-art equipment and our physicians can access all images on or off site utilizing the PACS system.
